Pat's update for 7/17/07

Hello There!! I hope this update finds everyone well and happy!
There aren't too many things more exciting, pleasing and satisfying, than seeing kids having fun FISHING!!..more importantly, CATCHING!!!
Recently, my 13 year old son Hunter and I had the opportunity to take some of our long-time friends fishing so we loaded up the gear and headed offshore to one of my close-in spots only 10-miles out. The 11 year-old twins Jenny and Jessee had never been "deep sea fishing" so they were cautious, pumped, excited, and eager all at the same time. Well the good news is, my dependable little close-in spot really paid off. Jenny was the first one to have "fish on!!!" and she landed a nice one! And believe me, it was only one of many this little firecracker landed.

Jessee was doing a fantastic job, too as he took to fishing like he had decades of experience, while only 11 years old. His non-stop chatter and excitement made it obvious that he was having a ball. The facial expressions that went along with his never ending energy were priceless. He could've gone all day without a word and his face would've said it all. Jessee got several nice ones in the boat, too.
I could hear his wheels turning in his head as he baited his line and dropped it back in the water. Then he asked, "Do you think we could stay one more day before we go home?" That little man was having fun!

Then there was my son, Hunter. He Captained the boat from my house all the way offshore to our destination, and once there, was ready to turn the helm over to me so he could get a hook in the water. It was no time at all before he yelled, "I got one!!". Of course the first thing he wanted was the fighting belt from the gear bag so the rough gimble-end on the fishing rod wouldn't dig into his gut as he fought the "monster fish" and landed him on board.
While fishing we noticed weather building north of us directly over our island home destination, and knew we were in for a rough rainy ride home. After we had enough fish in the cooler for dinner, I told the gang to grab a life vest and a towel and let's head in. The life vests not only add safety to a rough trip, but they're great for keeping the sharp rain drops off your body while driving home. Well the wind picked up immediately and chopped-up the Gulf pretty well and it rained hard on us all the way in...but once home (and after a hot shower) I cleaned and grilled the fish and we realized immediately it was worth every second of the trip.
Never pass up a chance to take a kid fishing!!! They'll remember it for the rest of their life.
Don't forget to check out my log homes at www.whispercreekloghomes.com. Drop me a note if you want more info on the ones we're building. Hope to hear from you soon...and LET'S GO FISHIN'!!
Best Regards,
